Stage 2

In my company, I also used ICT strategic plans as key to success. They were base on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship of Australia, University of Wollongong, NSW Health and Ian Graham. I found out that they were some part of them talking in the same direction; however, there were some parts different.
For my company, I mixed them together to make ICT strategic plans brought me the most effective and efficient as below;
-          The Vision and supporting Goals and Objectives
Because vision and supporting Goal and objective of strategic plan of my company need technology resources in support of range of outcome as University of Wollongong, I thought it would increase my quality and suitable outcomes of my company in case of I use technology for research endeavors, teaching activities, business and support purposes as University of Wollongong did.
-          Strategic Direction
As Ian Graham mentioned that “A technology plan provides a road map that an organization can use to guide technology initiatives”, I found out that ICT plan could furnish me a boarder corporate strategy of compressing time to market, enhancing customer satisfaction, improving productivity or cutting cost.
-          Situation Analysis
To run my business successfully, I supposed to apply my strategic plans to appropriate with the current situation. Due to now Thailand is confronting with the economic crisis, we have to realize the value of money. ICT systems must be delivered in an efficient and cost effective manner as we work to achieve our strategic outcomes with fewer resources as mentioned in Department of Immigration and citizenship of Australia.
-          Key Challenges
I thought the preparation to handle unexpected or unpredicted situations in advance was very useful to consider. I realized that NSW Health’s ICT strategic plan was necessary for my company in term of key challenges.
Finally, as Mr. Graham announced that “the greatest challenges involve management rather than technical, issues. No projects complete guarantee of success; however, know risks that lower the probability of success can be managed, and this requires enterprises to understand their strategies and prioritize accordingly”, I could figure out that ICT strategy plan was one of my key to success.

  2. Your ICT plan looks wonderful!!! By the way, I would like to give you some suggestions and opinions on your plan.

    (1) I could not agree more with your first suggested point about the supporting goals and objectives because it helps direct all staff in the company work and comply with the same directions. The objectives of the company should be clear statements in order that people who read it will undoubtedly understand. According to Finch(2010 p.68), the goals of the company should be clear, precise and concise, avoided ambitious targets, measurable, beneficial to stakeholders and set realistic time-periods to be achieved. But I personally think that this part should be a sector in Strategic direction because the company’s goals in overview are attached in the Vision and Mission parts.
Goals and strategies’ establishment remains imperative for the organization. From University of Wollongong’s ICT strategic plan, this part is illustrated in the form of table which can easily read and understand. The table contains three columns which are an objective column, a strategy column and a performance indicator column. For example,
    • Objective:
    - To provide proper technology to help facilitate the company’s strategy
    - To ensure that the technology employed to the company is reliable
    • Strategy:
    - Support in adoption and use of innovative technologies.
    - Increase and retain the technology adoption into the company
    - Make sure that the systems are reliable and meet service requirements
    - Ensure that there are enough backed-up important data
    • Performance indicator
    - Have experts checks the accuracy of technology adopted to use in the company

    (2) Vision is one of the imperative factor that should be included into our ICT strategic plan because the vision contains the company’s value and guidelines on how and which activities should be performed in order to reach the company’s goals. Moreover, it also forms the customer’s understanding in our company. Other than vision, mission is the another composition that should be formerly included in the plan due to the fact that mission conveys the overall company’s purpose.

    (3) Mentioning the current position of the company can help us foresee the future trends of technology that can be adopted to use in our company. This is a part of situation analysis. Also, as you mentioned that it will help us consider whether each activity we plan to do is cost-benefit.

    (4) In my opinion, Key challenges are a part of Future Analysis: Forecasting and Scenarios. As I point out in my blog post that this topic is very helpful in thinking about what ought to happen in the future. The situations which have been predicted in advance help our organization have a good preparation for any changes and can provide some solutions beforehand. Here are some examples I have extracted from NSW Health’s ICT strategic plan.
    - Increase in demand for services
    - Staff shortages in some areas
    - Higher expectations from customers due to becoming more informed
-Effects from communication, policies and procedures, knowledge, skills and competence issues
    - Constraints in funding (Priority determination and project scheduling)
Unarguably, the Strategic Response to Key Challenges should also be put next to the Key challenges as shown in NSW Health‘s strategic plan because these are the strategies to handle with those key challenges.

    (5) What I would like to add in your ICT plan is the implementation and the feedback and control section. Since the implementation will help provide the guidelines to achieve the strategic objectives the company set (Buhalis, 2003, p.48), while the feedback and control part will generate successful improvement in the business (Freeman, 2011, p.10). Freeman (2011, p.10), furthermore, added that monitoring the company’s performance and precise time-scheduling of assessment would be beneficial in company’s outcome development.

  3. Your ICT plan is great, but I think it would be more wonderful if you make up some defects.

Firstly, I think you should add the "situation analysis" or "current position" at the beginning of the plan. Although it is not the core of a ICT plan, you should do a deeper research and analysis basing on it. As what was included in the ICT plan of University of Wollongong, you should review and analyze what happened during the year 2005 to 2008, then give out a conclusion that what you want to achieve in 2009.

Secondly, in your statement, you mentioned the "key challenges", which was the problem that we were facing with. But I think it is more significant to come up with solutions to the problems. So I suggest "strategic response to key challenges" should be included in your ICT plan.

Thirdly, as what was mentioned by Rangsiya, the ICT plan of University of Wollongon would be quite beneficial to us. It provided a good example to us on how to connect the objectives, strategies and performance indicators. The information was exhibited by form, which was very clear to understand.

  4. In my opinion, your ICT strategic plan is good, some plan is suitable for the company but some is not.You should mentions about business information because of this time is customer-orientation era, Phillip Kotler(2002)said "customer is a king" so you should more consider about you customer.

    - You combine vision, goal and objective in the same stage. I think you should seperatd it into 2 partL:
    1. Mission statement, it consist of Vision and Mission. For Vision, I suggest you to use ICT plan of University of Wollongong, because of it is easy to read and understand. For Mission, ICT plan of Department of immigration and Citizenship of Australia will useful for this stage.

2.Strategic direction, you can add your goal and objective in this stage. It will more useful than you add it with vission. I suggest you to use ICT plan of University of Wolloongong

3.For situation analysis, you should identify Internal and External factor, SWOT analysis and Five force model in your stage
For Internal, you can find this informaion from ICT plan of NSW health
For External, I suggest the ICT plan of Department of immigration and citizenship of Australia.

    4. Your ICT strategic does not shown the measurment plan, I think it is important for the company as well. If you dont have measurment plan, you will not know your plan is appropriate for the company or not

  5. First of all I would like to thank you for all of the comments. I really appreciate.
I agree, then, with Ms. Chanchotsatian that my first part should be in Strategic Direction because the company’s goals in overview are attached in the vision and mission parts. Moreover, she make me realized that Quinn et al.(2007) mentioned that before we set the plan or strategy, we should have a vision first then devise some goals and objectives to help us get the vision.
For the comment of Ms. Xieqiong, as you suggested me about my “key challenges”, I first, actually, mentioned about the way to handle with the current situation with fewer resources but achieve my strategic outcomes. However, it make me can figure out that the solution of the problem is useful to my strategic.
Furthermore, I certainly like Khun Pinai’s comment that reminds me to add the measurement in my ICT strategic plan. It make me remember that Quinn et al.(2007) suggested that good managers in the organizations should have the skill to evaluate or measure the surrounded environments; hence, I think it will very helpful for my company to have it in my ICT strategic plan as the tool to measure how far I am.
Finally, thank you again for all of your comments. They are very useful to my company. Some of them are good but not fit for my company; however, almost of them are beneficial. I will apply them suitably. If you have more suggestions, please feel free to let me know.

  7. In my opinion, your ICT plan is going to the right way, but it will be better , if you apply our comment in your plan, Although if you find more information in stratgic managment processes and tools(Buhalis,2003), it will give you a big picture of ICT strategic plan.
If you interest in marketing or business ananlysis, I think five force model ( Micheal E. Poter, 1987) will be benefit for you

  8. Refering to our members' recommendations, let's me summarize what are going to include more in your plan.

    1) Mission and vision: as a consensus of group members that these are the most important factors that keep the company run to attain the same goals.

    2) SWOT analysis: is quite essential to add into the plan so that the company analyse both internal and external variables influncing the company's profitability.

    3) Strategic Response to Key Challenges: due to reaction to unpredictable situations that can be occur anytime in the near future.

4)Implementation: in order to have the ruls to follow by

    5) Control and feedback: to measure the company's performance whether it acheives the set up goals.

  9. I would like to explain my comment one more time. I mean I have seen the “key challenges” in your ICT plan. But what I suggested was just thinking about the “key challenges” was not enough. Because these are just problems, or even we can say these are problems just existing in your imagination. If you can come up with some practical measures which are included in the “strategic response to key challenges”, that would be more beneficial. No offense.
